Perdana Park: The Latest Landmark of Kota Kinabalu

Somebody HAD been dying to bring me to a place called Perdana Park

Just in case you didn't know, Perdana Park is the latest landmark in Kota Kinabalu, bringing the city yet another notch higher in the run for the title of, with permission, the most beautiful city in Malaysia.

Attended: MLTR Live Tour in Kuala Lumpur

SO, I attended the KL-part of Michael Learns to Rock low-profile series of concerts in Malaysia at the Plenary Hall in KLCC recently.

It was amazing how after more than a decade I still get connected to their songs - VERY VERY much actually.

Mobile Locksmith

Call me 'jakun' or 'ketinggalan' or 'kampungan' or 'ulu' or whatever you like but I'd never seen this when I was in Sabah.
I remember how I was cursing furiously when I had to drive all over Sandakan (my former residence) just to look for a locksmith. Here in KL, all you need to do is pick up the phone and call the number and they'll come to you in no time. If you are in Sabah, take the idea and do it there. I'm sure it will be laku one.

P/S: He didn't pay me to write this, unfortunately. :-P

Thumps UP!

A teacher of mine had once told me and the whole class how the people in the West would pull their cars over to give a hand whenever somebody's car breaks down on the road.

Here in Malaysia, people would rather be onlookers, some give symphatetic looks but do nothing to be of any help. They would even blast their honks in protest of the delayed time whenever your car suddenly stopped working at a traffic light or something.
What he said kinda stuck in me, not because it was not true but (rather) I'd never encountered anything to prove that he was wrong - or at least partially wrong. WHICH was why, whey I saw these two guys stop their motorbike and rush towards the car and helped push it out of the traffic, I was kinda relieved.
Malaysians are not really that bad after all. WE do help people. I was about to pull over myself but the guys came to the rescue first so - I didn't want to overact. I mean, two people were enough mahh hoh? Hey, seriously, I wanted to help! I really did! :-P

5 Months

I bought this when I was about to board my flight back to KL at the Stansted Airport in London about 2 years ago. The sales lady told me I'd get married in 5 months after I started using it.

Somehow I never opened it and kinda put it aside and it was almost entirely forgotten until...

TODAY. I opened it today.

5 months. We'll see.And shit. Why am I nervous? :-D

Malaysia International SHOE Festival 2011

So, I attended another festival at the PWTC last Sunday, this time it was called Malaysia International Shoe Festival, a festival organized by the Ministry of Tourism. It’s a festival that ‘takes visitors on a fascinating journey into the world of designer footwear ‘as described in its website.
And shit, just when I had completely forgotten the disappointment when Bruno Mars SOLD OUT on me in less than a week after tickets to his concert were opened for grab, I was given a last blow in the face when I saw this.

A Little Beaching at Batu Ferringhi

It wouldn’t feel right if I didn’t finish blogging about my trip to Penang. I know, it’s been awhile, but I really want to highlight how worthy it is to visit Penang – our very own UNESCO site.

So, after visiting the beautiful Paranakan Mansion and the magnificent Kek Lok Si temple all in one day, there was at least one place that we wanted to visit before calling it a day.

Tupperware: Starting Small

Being a self-declared environmentalist, I tried to incorporate as much of environmental-friendly habits in my everyday life as possible. Oh well, last time when I forgot to bring my shopping bag to a supermarket (I’ve got plenty), I chose not to spend my 20 cents away over a plastic bag. Instead, I catered all my stuff in my folded up shirt and had them strewn in the trunk of my car. At least, I saved the world from another plastic bag.

The Story of A Japanese Girl

The recent tsunami in Japan had somehow reminded me of a Japanese girl that I met in the most dramatic way in Sydney last year.

It was nearing 9pm and a sudden hunger had led me to coming down to the kitchen to cook a pack of instant noodles for supper.

Go to the Light Baby..

I am such a failure. Just to put something with a soul in my oversize room, I bought a pair of fishes one week ago and put them inside this semi-round mini aquarium.

I woke up this morning to find out that one of them appears to be, sadly….

Chin Swee : The Floating Temple

*This is of course, my continuation to the previous entry: Highlander-ing in Genting.
Back at the temple again after more than a decade, I of course expected to see a lot of changes. I don’t remember seeing this section of the temple when I was there last time.
If you are not an avid Buddhist practitioner, you may find Buddhism teachings quite so complicated.

Highlander-ing in Genting

So… My job had required me to spend most of my days in Genting Highland last week. I may surprise you but it was my only second time there with my first being, errr, 11 years ago? 12? Yes, 12 years ago. 12 years!
Are you laughing there?! Stop it! LOLz. One thing you gotta know about Genting Highland is the fact that it is quite close to KL. In fact, I could see the Genting Highland Resorts perching atop a mountain every time I drive along the fly-over in Jalan Kuching on my way back home from work.

OK. It was supposed to be there had it not been cloudy when I took the picture. But it's there. Behind the cloud. Hey, it's true. It's there. :-P

While entry to Genting Highland itself is free, you’ll need to fork out at least RM10 to pass through the toll plaza to the Karak Highway – via which the only way of access to Genting from KL.  It’s RM5 on your way up and another RM5 on your way down so be sure of putting ‘em in your budget.

MATTA Fair 2011

I believe that Japan can take care of itself so put aside all the things about the tsunami for now and head down to PWTC for the ongoing MATTA Travel Fair 2011. Or you’ll miss this.

Opps. I mean, this. LOL.

The Magnificent KEK LOK SI

So…. Where were we? Ohhh, the stairs up to Kok Lek Si temple. Me and Sylvia marched our way up till we reached the point where the stairs diverged to circle around a pond that was full of…

Tortoises? Yes. Tortoises. Green tortoises. I think it was exactly the same kind of tortoise that my little nephew had released to a little creek off the Tambunan-Ranau road when I offered him a big KFC meal for lunch [in exchange].

One Mansion, One Temple, One Beach: One Penang!

IF I WERE TO BE REBORN AGAIN, I’d want to be a baba. A very rich baba.
With a big mansion with a sweeping interior fanciful enough to impress an emperor.
There would be a big dining table spacious enough to accommodate a big spread of dishes to feed the hungry stomachs of at least a dozen my boastful friends once at a time.

The Best Dinner Under the LRT

Excuse me. I’ve just returned from this newly found eatery and I’m so damn full.

My Stuff is HERE!

I don't understand why people would apologize for not updating their blogs. I've seen it a lot and it kinda gives me a big ? in my head considering their full ownership of the blog actually.

I mean, it's your damn blog for Christ's sake! You may share the content but you don't share the ownership right? right???? It's really up to you whether you want to update or leave it to rot. So.. I wouldn't apologize for not updating Jipp's Blog, probably as regularly as I used to. It’s my damn blog.Kan?Kannn??? Kannnnnnn???????

Err, did I just hear somebody say ‘alasan’? :-P

So... My much awaited stuffs had finally arrived in the neighborhood yesterday. I've never been happier to see something that turn up right before my eyes for such a long time.

Being Kanak Kanak Riang at The Nuang Waterfall

*I continued this from my previous post.
I required a little bit of Smegal’s stone-hopping to get nearer to the waterfall.
The guys didn’t waste a minute. Before I knew they were already spreading out everything on the flat surface of a big stone.
I was so impressed by the smallness and lightness and carry-able-ness of this tiny little stove that Mr. Rambo had effortlessly brought along with him. I didn’t even remember I got impressed that much when I took hold of an iPhone for the first time a few months back. :-P

Gunung Nuang Waterfall : To Begin WITH

Being a life enthusiast that I am (ehemm!), I jumped at the idea of going for a trekking on my very first weekend in KL last Sunday. My interest for it had only been intensified by the fact that I had gained at least a few kgs since I came to KL. :-(
WE were picked up by a Mr. Pang – another life enthusiast that Ulai had befriended back in the Uni years. He really is a very interesting person to be with. I've never seen anyone with so much interest and enthusiasm in travelling and described about those places that he's been to as ‘elaboratively’ as he does. He really knows how to make me feel like I'm already there. People like Mr Pang would never bore you.

Surviving KL

SO…I officially bade farewell to my beloved home state last Sunday.
And welcoming myself with whatever lay ahead for me here in KL. There seem to be a lot of uncertainties but then, life is too boring to be sure of everything. I need surprises to keep my life exciting.

And The Love Story Continues...

Another lame post on a lame day here in Sandakan.
Taking off everything now.... huhu
Remember how I got so excited about buying a new gadget in preparation for the upcoming Borneo International Marathon last year? Of course I didn't get to join it and I already explained it thoroughly and defensively. He.

The Adrenaline Rush

It's hard not to miss a moment like this..

I'm sniffing around for more marathons to join this year...

Recycling at Sim Sim Seafood Restaurant

Just a quick blogpost on a rainy and messy and wet Saturday here in Sandakan.
I’ve just returned home from a weekend dash-away to a place called Sim Sim.

Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2010

I haven’t blogged about Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon that I joined in a couple of months back.

The Amazing Thaipusam

I joined thousands of people to celebrate the Thaipusam Festival at the Batu Caves last Thursday. I first saw and learned about it when I watched a CD called ‘Amazing Asia’ and I remember how I was so surprised that something so ‘fleshy’ for a celebration actually took place here in my own country. I had always wanted to attend it ever since but I never got to do it until recently when I received an envelope with a letter of transfer in it.
I was required to report for work in KL on the date that coincides the week of Thaipusam. Of course, I wouldn’t let it slip by just like that this time.

Goodbye Sandakan, Hello KL!

3years, 10 months and 12 days ago, I came to Sandakan to report for work for the first time.

I had no idea that my job would bring me all over the Divisional district of Sandakan, which I'd come to find out was sooooooo big it was even bigger then both Johor and Pahang combined. It's been such an exciting part of my life where I got to visit some of the remotest parts of the state whose existence I'd never had known of.

My Eventful Post-Marathon Days in Penang

[I was doing this entry when I suddenly couldn't post in anymore pictures. The pop-up notified that I've used up all of the 1GB free space that was allocated for this blog - hence I had to pay if I wanted extra space. I chose blogspot because it was free so there is no way I'm gonna pay for an extra space now. Luckily solution came in the form of flickr.com's photobucket. I'm still very much in the learning process but I've come to find out that it actually works well]

Oh well, my 3rd day in Penang was of course to run at 3am in the morning, get drenched in the stormy rain when I was in the middle of Penang Bridge and risked some of my most precious belongings which I stupidly brought along without the thinnest layer of protection and finished the marathon in a not-so-bad timing of 2 hours and 55 minutes.
Returning to the hostel after the marathon, I submerged myself entirely in a deep baby-like sleep for a good 3 hours. *This was when I 'donated' my empty wallet to some stupid thief.

Emergency Dept: Stop Dawdling!

One of the best things about travelling is the opportunity of meeting new people and if you are lucky making friends with some of them. I met Ellen via a friend when I visited Melbourne in May last year and thanks to the latest means of communication such as Twitter and now facebook, we have remained in contact ever since.
It was so good to see her again last night (or rather the day before yesterday's night), this time in our own kaki lima. Errrr, I mean Kota Kinabalu. He.
